Sindh Child Protection Authority pasted flyers – spreading awareness regarding the ills of child beggary – in District Kambar, Shahdadkot. The SCPA learnt that most of children hailed from the poor Bagri community and lived in slums. It engaged with their parents and convinced them to enroll their kids in school. As a result, approximately 300 children are now studying in different schools of Kambar. To keep the kids engaged, a tuition centre has also been set up by the SCPA where free education is being imparted in the evening. SCPA plans on working on more such activities in the district soon.

He visited the different sections of the Child Protection Unit Office Khairpur and was briefed about the services of Child Protection Unit Khairpur. Additional Director Social Welfare Meeral Khan Sahito discussed various issues pertaining to the office & staff and requested him for immediate attention. The Fact-Finding Committee, which was constituted earlier following the reports of alleged human rights violation including child labour, visited the Tharparkar area under the Committee Head Mohammad Ayub Khoso. The Committee spoke to the Child Protection Unit Officers in the area and directed the authorities to make sure that the forced child labour was put to an end.

It also discussed the referral mechanism to address the issues of child abuse/molestation, if reported at District Khairpur. The seminar was attended by Zaheer Ansari Sahib (SDPP), Qamar Uddin Channa Sahib CPO Khairpur, Qazi Shakeel Sahib (Human Rights Khairpur), Sharaf Uddin Tumrani Sahib (Social Activist), Hassan Kazim Junejo (WDD Khairpur) & the District Police personnel from the whole District Khairpur.

About 30 presidents of the local community organizations attended the workshop regarding improving coordination with government departments. The participants were briefed about the SCPA, its structure, mechanism, how it functions. They were also encouraged to report any and all child abuse to the SCPA’s helpline. Pictorial handbills with messages in the local language were also distributed.

on December 21 at the DC Office Khairpur. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Iqbal Hussain Jandan Saheb. Issues pertaining to the health of children were discussed in detail and different stakeholders gave their inputs regarding the accelerated action plan program, its activities and progress in District Khairpur.

Chairperson Ms Shamim Mumtaz personally took the boy to reunite him with his family since his parents were poor and could not afford to travel. He has now been handed over to his parents by the SCPA officials including Ms Shamim Mumtaz.

A child named Feroz s/o Hajan, belongs to a small village “Maday Jee” of Shikarpur region. The kid used to work at a Bungalow in Karachi where he was subjected to brutal physical torture. The kid ran off to Punjab where he was intercepted near Patoki by Punjab Police, Habibabad Thana. Since the kid hails from a poor family, his parents cannot travel to Punjab. SCPA Chairperson Ms Shamim Mumtaz along with CPU Larkana and Sukkur went to Punjab personally and are now taking the child themselves to reunite him with his family.

Participants are from Labor department, Social Welfare Department, FIA, police. Sindh Child Protection Authority also took part in the event.
